Creative solutions to the affordable housing crisis
If we want to address the affordable housing crisis, we need creative solutions. I put forward a motion for ‘housing over parking’, where under-used municipal parking lots could have affordable housing build on top, on pillars; housing people that need it, saving most of the parking spots, bringing more people to core areas, and helping our residents in need.
Caring for Our Seniors, Disabled Persons, and Accessibility
Scott fought to start a program to help seniors, older adults, and residents with physical and cognitive issues, have their winter snow cleared from sidewalks and driveway envelopes, making sidewalks accessible to all.
Creating Youth Employment and helping families
Listening to parents and youth in Cambridge, I realized the city can do more to help families in our city. I moved a motion at council to explore how the city can better help our youth find employment and gain confidence; from cover-letter and resume help, to interview preparation, to job portals and increasing the opportunities for youth at the City of Cambridge.
Fighting for traffic safety to help children and families
As soon as Scott joined Cambridge City Council in 2020, he began fighting for better road safety on Myers Rd., working with the Region to calm traffic, helping children and their families access Moffat Creek Public School and Holy Spirit Catholic School, safely.
Defending Canada’s Universal Public Healthcare for All
The health and well-being of our residents - especially our older adults, Seniors, youth, and vulnerable persons - is essential for every level of government, and the proper functioning of our city. In this vote, I was proud to extend my support to our universal public health care system, and to oppose the privatization (and hence, the slow erosion) of a public healthcare system that helps everyone - regardless of their income-level or walk of life.
Protecting Long Term Care Beds
Scott worked to save 256 Long Term Care (LTC) beds that Cambridge’s aging population badly needs, while protecting the heritage exterior of the ‘Golden Years’ facility – now to be a home for long-term care beds.
Tiny Homes as a way to help the housing crisis
One of my first motions on council, I sought to tackle our housing crisis in a creative way: by providing low-cost, high-quality ‘tiny’ homes to persons need a roof over their head.
Advocating Against Gender Based Violence (GBV)
I moved a motion - along with my late friend and colleague Donna Reid (RIP), to declare our escalating crisis of intimate partner violence an epidemic.
Embracing Canadian Heroes to Raise Funds for Charity
After Scott partnered with Canadian pop-culture legend Richard Comely, creator and artist of Canada’s first super-hero, Captain Canuck, Richard asked Scott to be the second person ever to wear the ‘Captain Canuck’ costume, at FanExpo 2025, in Toronto. Scott agreed, but on the condition he could raise money for local charities in need.
Bringing ‘Placemaking’ to City Hall to drive tourism, economic development, and joy
Scott has championed creative economic development and community-building ideas that attract businesses and tourists to our city, while entertaining local residents and inspiring renewed pride in our city. Scott first brought the concept of ‘placemaking’ to Cambridge council, and this has since evolved into its very own ‘working group’ to help the city thrive.
Protecting Waterways and Infrastructure from Road Salt
In order to protect our rivers and drinking water, Scott’s motion examined a reduction in winter road salt (a highly toxic substance) while working with the province to introduce ‘limited liability’ legislation that would protect small businesses and contractors – avoiding excessive salt use, reducing costs, and saving our water.
Standing up for Affordable Housing – Even when He’s standing alone!
Scott was the lone councillor to support all four of City Staff’s recommended ‘affordable housing projects’ proposed on city-owned land. (When the city owns the land, it has control over the units, rents, etc.)
Advocate for public transportation and the Light Rail Transit (ION Stage 2)
Scott has been a strong advocate for bringing Stage 2 ION light rail to Cambridge, recognizing it as a once-in-a-generation investment in our city’s future. He supports the economic growth, housing opportunity, connectivity, and community revitalization it can help unlock.
Standing up for the LGBTQIA+ Community
Our job as elected officials, and leaders, is to stand up for, and be the voice of, those residents that might not be able to do so themselves. In this light, I was proud to stand up for the LGBTQIA+ community and share a public message in support of them.
Sticking up for Cambridge’s taxpayers
I feel strongly that our residents should not have to subsidize the water bills of landlords, if their tenants have delinquent water bills. Landlords are essential to rental housing in our city; but any business that takes a risk to make a profit, also risks a loss. If the profit is not distributed directly to taxpayers, than neither should any losses.
Scott Opposed a Decision That Risked Taxpayer Dollars and Housing Growth at Preston Springs
Scott opposed last-minute changes made without consultation that invited a losing OLT battle, wasted taxpayer dollars, and sent the wrong message to those investing in Cambridge. He supported collaboration over chaos to protect housing, economic growth, and a better outcome for Preston.
Free Access to Clean Public Drinking Water as a Human Right
With Summer days getting warmer, and since water is a human right, Scott passed a motion requesting a ‘pilot project’ of a drinking fountain installed in the Galt core, near the farmer’s market; saving residents money and protecting the environment by reducing plastic bottle consumption.
Creating EV infrastructure
With a rise in electric vehicle purchases in Canada, Scott passed a motion that requested developers pre-install the proper power-lines required for electric vehicle charging stations, so the city and residents do not have to pay costly installation fees in the future.
Fighting For More Affordable Housing
Scott supports real action on housing affordability - increasing supply, encouraging smart development, and ensuring Cambridge grows in a way that works for everyone.
Free Public Transportation on Election Days
To help residents in financial need, and to inspire others by showing that elected officials care about public opinion and democracy, Scott’s motion to request free public transit on the GRT during election days, passed unanimously.
A 3-Pointer to win a computer turns into a community coming together
At a KW Titans game in 2025, Scott hit a crowd-selected three-pointer to win a laptop - then donated it to a youth in the Preston Heights Community Group who needed it most. Inspired by the moment, the Titans also donated 50 tickets to local community organizations, giving youth and families access to a professional game and an unforgettable experience.
Advocating for safer roads, intersections, and roundabouts
Five years before it was built, Scott was advocating for safer, better intersections - such as Branchton Rd. and Dundas St. (Hwy. 8)
15 Minute Walkable Neighbourhoods
After living in Europe, where walkability is a key facet of many small and large cities, Scott has been an advocate of ’15 minute cities’ where walkability and active transportation allow for healthy and low-cost ways to access essential services and amenities.
Scott has earned a reputation as a calm, creative, collaborator
Elected in 2020 as a city councillor, Scott entered the council horseshoe with a reputation for calm, rational, creative thinking – and he has used his time and council to implement creative motions and programs that help others, while understanding how provincial policies orient municipal decision-making.
Thinking creatively and building partnerships to help local charities
As Senior Director at our local United Way, a charity dedicated to supporting 60+ local non-profit organizations help residents in need, Scott formed new and creative partnerships to raise money and build community spirit and feelings of optimism!
A strong voice to revitalize our cores, businesses, and return to our rivers
In Scott’s drive to revitalize our city’s cores by increasing pedestrian traffic, business and economic development, placemaking activities on the water, and tourist attractions, Scott’s vote was instrumental in allowing Pearle Hospitality’s proposal for a deluxe spa, hotel, and condo, to move forward in Galt beside the Cambridge Mill!
Exploring the revitalization of Cambridge’s Gateway to the city
Scott passed a motion asking staff to connect with Home Depot to see if the ‘gateway fountains’ at the main entrance to our city could be revitalized, with low-cost options such as LED lights, funded by sponsorships - without affecting city taxes! A major entrance to our city should reflect the pride people feel in our city.
